Nokia N8: New Videos Demonstrating HD Video Recording, Messaging, Internet and Maps

Image
Remember the Nokia N8? Yes, I am talking about Nokia’s next high-end handset that got trashed in an early review. One of the main drawbacks cited by the reviewer was that the Symbian^3 OS just didn’t cut it. Quite obviously, Nokia is keen to prove otherwise. Nokia has recorded three videos demonstrating different aspects of the user interface (UI) including messaging, internet and maps. The first of the three is embedded below. The remaining videos will be released next week. From the video, the browser looks strictly ok. The only thing worth noting is that it supports flash. The messaging aspect has definitely improved but Nokia is simply playing catch-up. Threaded SMS conversations, which has been present in iPhone, Palm and Android devices for a long time, finally makes it to Symbian. The saving grace is Ovi Maps, which is an excellent navigation app. Some eye candy has been added to Symbian^3 including more widgets, some transition effects and a refreshed task manager. N8 will feat

Facebook to simplify privacy settings

Shanghai World Expo park opens to public

The Shanghai World Expo formally opened its door to the highly avid public Saturday morning after years of planning and preparation. Visitors, from home and abroad, have thronged to the gates of the Expo park, receiving security checks in long queues. Japanese robot mimics movements

Image
Mahru the robot can dance and wave and do just about anything you can do, while you're doing it. The latest version of this humanoid-looking robot developed by Korea Institute of Science and Technology's ( KISK ) Cognitive Robotics Centre can mimic a person's movement in real-time, reports the sci-tech website IEEE Spectrum. Dubbed Mahru, the robot's movements are fluid and clean. And how it performs them is evolving every day. Previously, the robot had to learn how to perform new tasks via video. Now, a motion-capture suit allows the wearer's movements to be transferred directly to Mahru. The motions can be recorded for later use, too. The KISK Cognitive Robotics Center research focuses on designing robots that do chores for people, and they have made headlines before, as newer models become capable of ever more complex tasks. Past versions of Mahru have performed chores like grocery shopping, or bringing food to tables. "Attention is turning to the benefi

Apple launches 3G iPad, looks to maintain momentum

Image
In the second stage of a two-part rollout,Apple Inc on Friday began selling the pricier, high-speed wireless version of the iPad in the United States, following the successful launch of the short-range Wi-Fi tablet earlier this month. Although the event certainly lacked the buildup and excitement of the April 3 debut -- with the heartiest waiting in line overnight -- some Apple retail stores in big cities still saw decent-sized crowds ahead of the 5 p.m. launch. At a store in downtown San Francisco, roughly 75 people stood in line 90 minutes before the 3G iPad went on sale. Several people said they had waited for the more expensive version of Apple's tablet because they saw it as a potential replacement for their laptops, at least in certain situations. "I'm going to take it everywhere with me, I already take my laptop everywhere, and it'll definitely replace my laptop in a lot of cases," said Long Nguyen, 22, who works in IT repair and was first in line. How to Build Your own RC Helicopter

Image
Flying RC helicopter is really very exhilarating. Their versatility gives a RC pilot a complete access to the three-dimensional space in such a way that no other machines can! I have played RC helicopter for more than one year but still find that I have just learnt a few tricks that it can perform. There are generally two micro-helicopters ( indoor ) in the RC market. I have already planned to buy one of them as they can fly inside the living room and even take off on ours hand. Unlike those operated by gas, these electric helicopters are very clean and give out no terrible noise at all. In one nightfall, I visited a web site, which is about how to make a hand made RC helicopter. I was totally impressed and started designing my own helicopter. Here is my helicopter: The plan of the helicopter had finally been completed. It is not very well drew. The current plan available is only for the fixed pitch design. If you are a fan of RC helicopters and would like to build your own then check
